In the suit, the PDP is requesting a perpetual injunction to bar Tenebe and his associates from further trespassing, operating within, or disrupting the party’s activities on the premises. The party is also seeking over ₦900 million in damages, including more than ₦300 million for office equipment — such as computers, generators, and laptops — allegedly looted or destroyed during the incident.
According to the writ of summons, the PDP is asking the court to:
-
Declare the forceful eviction of its staff and occupation of the premises as an act of trespass.
-
Acknowledge that the defendant’s actions on January 16, 2025, violated the party’s right to quiet enjoyment of its rented property, for which it seeks ₦500 million in general damages.
-
Award ₦322.7 million as special damages for office equipment allegedly stolen or vandalized.
-
Compensate for the cost of emergency relocation to Etano Hotel, G.R.A., Benin City, calculated at ₦3 million daily from January 16 to February 13, 2025 (₦90 million), and ₦5 million per day from February 13 until judgment is delivered.
The PDP is also urging the court to order the restoration of its possession and occupation of the secretariat, along with a perpetual injunction stopping Tenebe and his associates from further interfering with the property.
The party asserts that the takeover constitutes a serious breach of its legal rights and is committed to pursuing justice through the courts.
