With 120 goals already recorded, AFCON 2025 has surpassed the previous record of 119 goals set during the 2023 finals in the Ivory Coast.

This milestone comes ahead of the third-place clash between Nigeria and Egypt, and the final showdown between hosts Morocco and reigning champions Senegal.

The previous record of 119 goals was achieved in the expanded 24-team format in 2023, while 102 goals were scored at the 2019 finals in Egypt. This year’s tournament has gone one better, thanks to the exploits of Africa’s top forwards.

Leading the scoring charts is Morocco midfielder Brahim Diaz with five goals, closely trailed by Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen and Egypt captain Mohamed Salah, each with four goals.

Osimhen’s performances have also attracted international acclaim. Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan singled him out as his favorite striker in world football during a conversation with Rio Ferdinand on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

“Victor Osimhen. Victor Osimhen plays with heart. He gives everything,” Gyan said. “I’m surprised the big clubs in the world haven’t come for him. I’m appealing to Manchester United to sign him.”
