2027 Election Twist: Galadima Debunks Power Rotation Agreement Rumor
Buba Galadima, a key figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and a close associate of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dismissed claims of any existing agreement between the North and South regarding the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview with Sunday Punch, Galadima emphasized that the primary focus of opposition parties should be on ensuring free and fair elections rather than debating the regional origins of candidates.
“I don’t discuss North and South when talking about democracy. If Tinubu completes his tenure and Nigerians decide to vote for Seyi Tinubu, I have no objection, provided the election is free and fair,” he said.
He further asserted that any claims of a North-South agreement on power rotation are false and reflect a misunderstanding of democracy and politics.
Galadima’s remarks come just days after 2023 presidential candidates—Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai—announced the formation of a coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
