The Abia State Peoples Democratic Party has strongly criticized the prolonged delay in inaugurating Aaron Uzodike, who was re-elected as the member representing Aba North State Constituency in the 2023 elections.
Uzodike received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission on December 13, 2023, following a court order. Despite assurances from the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emereuwa, regarding Uzodike’s inauguration, legal challenges involving Uzodike and Destiny Nwagwu of the Labour Party have contributed to the delay.
Expressing dismay over the situation, Abraham Amah, Vice Chairman of the party, pointed out that winners declared by the Court of Appeal from other political parties had been promptly inaugurated at the national level. Amah emphasized that the delay contradicts democratic principles and called for immediate action to resolve the issue.
“It’s unacceptable that despite the Court of Appeal’s clear directive and INEC’s prompt compliance in issuing a Certificate of Return, Aaron Uzodike remains uninaugurated after seven months,” Amah stated. He highlighted disparities where non-All Progressives Congress members declared winners by the same court had been inaugurated at the federal level.
The Abia PDP urges swift action to uphold democratic norms and ensure Uzodike’s rightful representation in the state House of Assembly.
