A political group affiliated with the Labour Party (LP), known as the Obidient Movement in the Edo South Senatorial District, has shared their reasons for supporting former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.

During a courtesy visit to Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2024 Edo Governorship Election, the group explained that they backed Obi because they believed it was time for an Igbo to lead Nigeria.

“We supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election because we felt it was the turn of the Igbos,” stated Comrade Ikhuenbor Felix Igbinevbo, Coordinator-General of the Obidient Movement in Edo South Senatorial District, during their visit in Benin City.

The group further explained their support for the APC candidate, citing his strong community ties and background. Igbinevbo emphasized the Obidient Movement’s commitment to good leadership, justice, and responsibility.

In his remarks, Okpebholo urged the state’s citizens to vote against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government, accusing it of underperformance.

“If they have done well, I would not have contested. I urge you to punish them with your votes because if you leave it for them, our unborn children will suffer,” he said.

Okpebholo also pledged to surpass the achievements of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration within the first year if elected. He expressed his gratitude to the Obidient Movement for their support and assured them he would honor their trust.

The Edo Governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024.
