The Imo State House of Assembly has suspended four members allegedly attempting to impeach the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe. This development was disclosed by Olemgbe on Tuesday.
The suspended lawmakers are Samuel Otuibe (Ahiazu-Mbaise), Henry Agbasonu (Ezinihitte-Mbaise), Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (Okigwe), and Dominic Ezerioha (Oru-West). According to the Speaker, the decision was made during an executive session.
Additionally, all standing committees chaired by the suspended members have been reassigned. The Speaker also announced minor reshuffles in the standing committees during the plenary session.
Some of the suspended members present during the announcement declined to comment.
Peter Uwa, the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, confirmed the suspension to Vanguard in Owerri. When asked about the reason, Uwa stated, “They were suspended for hatching and scheming an impeachment plan, inciting members to impeach the Speaker. The suspension was announced by the Speaker without a motion.”
