PDP Seeks Reversal Of Court Verdict On Edo Governorship Primary Election

The Federal High Court stressed the significance of adhering to party constitutions and electoral laws, underscoring that such breaches undermine democratic processes. It ordered the reinstatement of the excluded delegates to ensure fairness in the party’s selection procedures.

Responding to this, the PDP, represented by Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN), argued in their appeal that the lower court’s decision lacked foundation and evidential support. They maintained that the primary election was conducted in compliance with the party’s regulations and clarified that the excluded delegates did not partake in the ad-hoc ward congress held on February 4.

The PDP seeks the Court of Appeal’s intervention to overturn the previous ruling, dismissing the case on grounds that their actions during the primaries were lawful and in accordance with electoral laws and internal guidelines.

The appeal, identified as CA/ABJ/CV/2024, lists Kelvin Mohammed, Gabriel Okoduwa, Ederaho Osagie, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the National Secretary of the PDP, and the Vice Chairman of PDP South-South as respondents.

PDP’s objective is to reverse the judgment and proceed with its selected candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State.
