In a recent statement, ngCERT revealed that Phobos ransomware attackers often infiltrate vulnerable networks. The team identified the most at-risk entities as providers of information technology and telecommunication services, including managed cloud services. These providers serve critical government agencies, financial institutions, telecommunications, education, healthcare, service providers, and non-governmental organizations in Nigeria.

Although ngCERT did not specify which organizations had been affected, it assured that it is actively working with vulnerable and impacted organizations to quickly resolve these incidents and prevent further escalation.

“Organizations must proactively implement the mitigation strategies outlined in this document to help prevent the spread of the malware,” ngCERT stated.

It is noteworthy that the Nigerian Communications Commission reported a loss of $500 million to cybercrime in Nigeria.
