OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye disclosed this on Wednesday in Osogbo through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yemi Badru. Abioye emphasized that the commission is prepared to appoint electoral officers, assistant electoral officers, and other necessary staff for the smooth conduct of the elections.
He noted that OSSIEC’s actions align with the timetable and schedule of activities set earlier in the year for the Osun local council elections. Abioye highlighted the imminent timing for political parties to conduct their primaries and underscored the importance of adhering to eligibility regulations to ensure that only qualified candidates are fielded.
“The Commission’s Screening Committee will rigorously vet candidates to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria. Any candidate found unqualified will not be permitted on the ballot,” Abioye affirmed.
Regarding civil servants interested in contesting, Abioye stated, “Employees of any tier of government must resign from their positions within 30 days before the election as mandated by law. Political appointees must adhere to specific resignation timelines as stipulated by OSSIEC.”
He further outlined forthcoming regulations concerning nomination fees, candidate substitution protocols, campaign guidelines, and meeting modalities, all of which will be detailed in the issued regulations.
Abioye also assured the public that the appointment of electoral officers and other essential staff will be announced shortly, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring the election’s integrity and effective execution across local council areas.
“We are dedicated to conducting these local government elections with utmost transparency, credibility, and fairness,” Abioye reassured the Osun electorate.
