The Appeal Court in Abuja upheld the ruling of the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier affirmed Ododo’s victory. The tribunal had dismissed a petition from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate, Murtala Ajaka, citing incompetence of witnesses whose statements did not comply with electoral laws.

In his reaction conveyed by his media adviser, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo thanked the people of Kogi State for their steadfast support and commended the judiciary for promptly handling the appeal. He emphasized that the court’s decision underscores the irrefutability of the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Kogi State.

Governor Ododo reiterated, “The judgement of the Appeal Court reaffirms the integrity of the November 2023 Governorship election in Kogi State, affirming it as free, fair, peaceful, and credible.” He also expressed his administration’s commitment to promoting peace and unity, pledging to govern with fairness and inclusivity.

Furthermore, the Governor called upon opposition politicians to collaborate in advancing the state’s development, urging that the appeal court’s ruling should settle any disputes regarding the election outcome. He also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s role in upholding judicial independence and transparency.

Meanwhile, SDP candidate Murtala Ajaka has indicated his intention to challenge the Appeal Court’s decision, continuing the legal battle over the election results.
