Deputy Speaker Kalu Calls On Ndigbo To Honor President Tinubu For His Benefits To The Region

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has stated that President Bola Tinubu has done more for the southeast than the number of votes he received from the region during the 2023 election.

Kalu made this remark during the APC Southeast zonal meeting in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, on Sunday, July 14. He urged the people of the region to support the Tinubu administration’s efforts to address perceived marginalization.

During the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu received 2,187,599 votes in the southeast, the lowest compared to the votes he garnered from the other five geopolitical zones. In comparison, he received 4,350,987 votes in the southwest, 2,745,707 in the south-south, 3,116,472 in the northeast, 4,261,784 in the north-central, and 6,468,492 in the northwest.

“President Bola Tinubu has given Ndigbo more than the votes cast for him during the elections. It is presently left for us to repay him for his good works because when one shows appreciation, he gets more. The process for the Southeast Development Commission bill, which would solve the numerous challenges confronting the Igbos, has been finalized and is awaiting the president’s assent. The National Assembly, under the leadership of the APC, will continue to leverage legislative interventions to reposition the southeast and the nation as a whole.

“Efforts are underway to grant an additional state to the southeast. The call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu is also resonating as one of the keys to resolving the security challenges in our zone. It is, therefore, appropriate on an occasion like this to thank everyone who has supported this effort, including our governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and others. May we not relent until the deed is done.”

Kalu highlighted that Tinubu has made several appointments from the southeast.

“The recent appointments of several illustrious sons and daughters of the region demonstrate the party’s commitment to inclusivity,” he said.
