Naija News previously reported that several corps members in Ekiti State sustained injuries after a section of the NYSC orientation camp in Ise-Emure collapsed. The incident occurred on Friday when the wall of the female hostel fell in the morning.
This prompted the governor’s recent decision to evaluate the structural safety of the camp facilities for the NYSC members.
Following the incident, Governor Oyebanji mandated the construction of 45 toilet and bathroom units at the camp, with work commencing on Monday morning. He also instructed the state electricity board to provide solar-powered electricity to the camp.
“The first step is to conduct an integrity test on all the buildings in the camp. The results will guide further actions regarding the facilities to improve living conditions for the corps members,” the governor stated.
The integrity test will involve a comprehensive inspection of the camp’s structures to assess their durability and safety standards.
Oyebanji stressed the need for immediate improvements to the camp’s infrastructure, assuring corps members of ongoing support for their efforts.
“My response to your request includes immediate actions, such as providing solar lighting. I will direct the relevant authorities to implement this right away,” he added.
Earlier, Alhaji Riko Shuaibu, the State NYSC Coordinator, expressed gratitude to the governor for his commitment to the safety and well-being of the youth corps, as well as for approving the development of the new toilet and bathroom facilities.
Shuaibu noted that the main purpose of the visit was to discuss the challenges faced by the NYSC camp and to seek assistance from the state government.
