Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, announced this during a visit to the market on Monday. He emphasized the importance of identifying the root cause of the fire to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Sofela stated, “Experts will be brought in to perform an integrity test on the market’s structure to assess the fire’s impact, and the government will expedite the rehabilitation of the affected areas.”

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, market board officials, and the Iyaloja, Mrs. Tejumade Bakre, Sofela noted the significance of the main building, constructed over 43 years ago, and stressed the need for its protection and maintenance due to its economic value.

He reassured residents that Governor Dapo Abiodun would implement measures to support traders who lost property in the blaze.

Following the incident, Mrs. Tejumade Bakre condemned the looting that occurred and expressed gratitude to the government and security agencies for their prompt response.

The fire, which broke out around 10:15 PM on Saturday, was reportedly triggered by an explosion from a gas-powered generator owned by a businessman in the market.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, confirmed that 15 shops were impacted and noted that the fire originated from illegal structures outside, spreading to the main building. She indicated that the government would consider demolishing these shanties to restore order and safety in the market.
