Kalu Calls For Patience With Tinubu, Urges Nigerians To Avoid Protests

In a statement released on Thursday in Umuahia, Kalu emphasized that while protests might support democratic principles, they could hinder economic progress. He appealed to civil society organizations, youth groups, and others who believe that Nigeria’s situation is comparable to Kenya’s to reconsider their plans.

Kalu stated, “Protesting now may seem beneficial for democracy, but it will not be conducive to our economic development. I urge everyone to hold off on protests and give President Tinubu a chance to work on the issues.”

He acknowledged the widespread suffering and economic difficulties but assured that Tinubu is aware of these problems and is actively working to improve the situation. Kalu reminded Nigerians that no elected leader wishes to see their citizens in distress and urged patience, noting that quick fixes are unrealistic.

“This is 2024, and with the decline in oil revenue, it’s not fair to judge President Tinubu’s performance just yet. Just as former President Buhari is now retired to Daura, Tinubu will eventually return to Lagos after his term. Meanwhile, the country remains our shared responsibility,” Kalu added. He had previously suggested allowing Tinubu two to three years to address the economic issues, given the complexity and time required for resolution.
