Turkish President Erdogan Sparks Outrage After Slapping Child for Refusing Hand Kiss (Video) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stirred controversy after a video emerged showing him slapping a child for refusing to kiss his hand—a traditional gesture of respect in Turkey.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The footage, captured during the opening ceremony of the Aider Plateau Protection and Renewal Project in Rize on July 27, shows Erdogan extending his hand for the boy to kiss. When the child hesitates, Erdogan flicks his wrist, striking the boy on the cheek. The president then extends his hand again, and the child eventually complies.
The incident, which was broadcast on Dokuz 8 TV and has since gone viral on social media platform X, has sparked widespread debate. While some viewers dismiss the slap as a minor infraction, others have expressed concern about Erdogan’s behavior.
One commenter questioned the president’s behavior, saying, “I wonder how he treats people behind closed doors if he can do this in front of cameras.” Conversely, some defended Erdogan, arguing that hand-kissing is a significant cultural norm in Turkey and that the president was merely enforcing this tradition.
This is not the first time Erdogan has faced backlash for his interactions with children. In 2021, he was criticized for hitting a child on the head during a similar public event.
