NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar, in a statement issued in Abuja by spokesperson Ezekiel Manzo, provided these figures and outlined the agency’s ongoing efforts. She emphasized the importance of public awareness campaigns and workshops focused on waste management and drainage clearance to mitigate future flooding.

Umar urged State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) and local leaders to prepare for quick flood responses and advised communities near waterways to move to safer areas as the rainy season intensifies. She also reassured farmers about the temporary nature of the current dry spell, citing predictions from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

NEMA has mobilized efforts to assess the damage and coordinate relief operations with SEMAs. The agency has activated search and rescue teams and placed its zonal and operational offices on high alert. Relief items are being distributed to support affected communities.
