“Corruption remains a significant obstacle to our nations’ progress and prosperity. It erodes public trust and hinders the fair allocation of resources. As leaders, it is our duty to confront this challenge with determined and unified action,” Tinubu remarked.

He outlined Nigeria’s approach over the past year, which includes reinforcing anti-corruption agencies by maintaining their independence and ensuring they receive adequate funding.

As ECOWAS Chairman, Tinubu called on member states to harmonize their legal frameworks, enhance the autonomy and effectiveness of anti-corruption bodies, and adopt further measures to combat corruption.

He proposed moving beyond mere rhetoric to implement concrete actions such as aligning legal frameworks to close exploitation gaps, enhancing cross-border cooperation for investigations and asset recovery, investing in technology to prevent corruption, and fostering transparency in public procurement. Tinubu also urged collaboration with civil society and media and strengthening the capacity of national anti-corruption institutions.
