Arabi and Kontagora had been detained in connection with alleged misappropriation of the ₦90 billion 2024 Hajj intervention fund provided by the federal government. Initial reports indicated that both individuals had trouble meeting their bail conditions, resulting in a five-day detention by the EFCC.

According to a source quoted by Punch, Arabi and Kontagora managed to fulfill their bail requirements and were released on Monday. The source also noted that there had been no further recoveries beyond the initial 314,098 Saudi Riyal, though investigations continue.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.

In related news, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Jalal Arabi from his role as Chairman of NAHCON and appointed Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new Executive Chairman. Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, confirmed the appointment on Monday, noting that Usman’s confirmation is pending approval by the Nigerian Senate. Ngelale emphasized that the new Chairman is expected to uphold integrity, transparency, and dedication in his role.
