Recently, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming Edo election, gave a candid interview on KU FM, a prominent radio station based in Edo State. In the interview, Akpata tackled pressing issues affecting the people of Edo, highlighting the state’s financial mismanagement and offering a clear vision for the future.

Akpata did not hold back in his critique of the current administration led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, pinpointing their failure to effectively utilize the substantial resources available to Edo State for development. He provided a detailed analysis, backed by data, on the state’s revenue streams and the missed opportunities for meaningful progress.

“What is our current reality? It’s disheartening that in this information age, people remain uninformed about critical financial matters. Currently, Edo receives approximately sixteen billion naira monthly, with around eleven billion coming from FAAC allocations. When you add our internally generated revenue, we’re looking at a total around sixteen billion. six-billion-naira na beans, na moi moi?,” he asserted.

During the interview, Akpata laid out how he would utilize such substantial funds to alleviate poverty, revamp infrastructure, enhance education, and improve the welfare of Edo’s citizens. His track record as the Former NBA President, where he bolstered the association’s global reputation, resolved financial issues, and left office with over a billion naira in savings, reinforces his credibility as a capable leader. With Akpata and his running mate, Kadiri, Edo will be okay for all Edolites.
