The ceremony, which united Laila with Saleh Maitala, son of the former Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, was held at the National Mosque. This event followed a visit by former Kaduna State governor Nasiru El-Rufai, who had sought Atiku’s approval for his daughter’s hand in marriage.
The wedding drew a significant crowd of political figures, including former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar and ex-governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Ali Modu Sheriff (Borno), Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano), and Adamu Muazu (Bauchi). Other notable attendees were acting PDP Chairman Umar Damagum, Senator Abdul Ningi, and NDLEA Chairman Col. Buba Marwa (retd.).
During the event, Ganduje and Kwankwaso notably avoided direct interaction. At prayer time, they positioned themselves at a distance, flanked by Marwa, Abdulsalami, and Sheriff. Attempts to obtain comments from either politician after the ceremony were unsuccessful as they left the venue with their entourages
