In a press briefing held on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye highlighted the severe hardship Nigerians continue to face due to the ongoing fuel shortages. He stressed that many citizens had hoped the fuel crisis would end following the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, but the situation has only worsened.
“Nigerians were optimistic that fuel scarcity would be resolved after the subsidy removal,” Oyintiloye remarked. “Unfortunately, instead of relief, the problem has escalated, forcing Nigerians to buy fuel at exorbitant prices.”
Oyintiloye urged President Tinubu to conduct a thorough investigation into the operations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to uncover the underlying reasons for the persistent fuel shortages. He pointed out that while the country is grappling with various economic challenges, the additional burden of inadequate fuel supply is exacerbating the situation.
“In recent months, Nigerians have struggled to access petroleum products at filling stations nationwide,” Oyintiloye noted. “I implore the President to take swift action to alleviate the suffering caused by this fuel scarcity.”
He expressed deep concern over the fact that fuel shortages have become a regular occurrence in Nigeria, forcing many to spend nights at filling stations in desperate attempts to secure fuel for their businesses and vehicles. He also emphasized that many stations either lack fuel entirely or sell it at inflated prices.
Furthermore, Oyintiloye urged the President to prioritize the revitalization of Nigeria’s refineries, arguing that if the country’s four refineries were operating at full capacity, the issue of fuel scarcity would be permanently resolved.
