On Monday, August 26, residents of Thaba Nchu, Free State, South Africa, staged a march from the court to the local police station, demanding justice after the murder of a 23-year-old woman by her boyfriend.
Katleho Mofokeng, a nursing student from Kroonstad, was tragically killed when her boyfriend set her on fire. Reports indicate that on August 2, 2024, he attacked her by dousing her with hot water and paraffin before igniting the flames.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Katleho succumbed to her injuries on August 11, 2024. She was studying at Dr. JS Moroka Hospital, and her death has deeply affected her community.
The incident has intensified discussions about domestic violence and the urgent need for stronger protective measures. In response to this tragedy, there has been widespread support for Katleho’s family and a strong demand for a thorough investigation and accountability for the perpetrator.
