On August 23, PDP governors met in Taraba State to discuss the ongoing party crisis in Rivers and expressed their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The PDP Governors’ Forum, led by its Chairman and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, issued a communiqué calling for a review of the party congress results to reaffirm Fubara’s leadership.
Addressing the party’s state congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike urged PDP governors to refrain from interfering in Rivers State’s party matters. He stated, “Let me assure everyone that no one will take away the PDP structure from us. I hear some governors believe they can take control and then return it. I feel sorry for those governors because I will make things difficult for them in their states.”
Wike added, “If you think you can disrupt our peace and use your position to intervene in our affairs because of some bonus you received, be prepared for retaliation. I have the ability to create similar trouble in your state. No matter where you are from, if you try to interfere in Rivers, you will face consequences and won’t find peace in your own state.”
The PDP in Rivers State has been in turmoil following a dispute between Wike and his predecessor, who was absent from the congress. The event was attended by current and former lawmakers, past council chairmen, and other party members.
