 Enugu LG Election Date Stands Firm, Says ENSIEC

Speaking to the press on Sunday in Enugu, ENSIEC Chairman Prof. Christian Ngwu emphasized that all preparations for the upcoming council polls, which will fill chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state, have been finalized. “Anyone thinking that the September 21 date might be postponed or rescheduled is not in touch with the current realities,” Ngwu stated.

He explained that the commission is adhering strictly to its election timetable and has received the necessary financial backing from the state government to ensure the elections are successful. Ngwu also highlighted the comprehensive logistical arrangements in place, noting that ENSIEC is coordinating with security agencies and other organizations to provide support services before, during, and after the elections.

“We are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring proactive and adequate security for electoral materials, officials, and voters on election day,” he assured.

Ngwu further disclosed that ENSIEC is working with a partner organization to conduct a three-day train-the-trainers workshop for 50 key electoral officials, including Electoral Officers (EOs), unit heads, and other staff. These trained officials will, in turn, train the ad-hoc electoral staff that the commission has already made arrangements to recruit across all council areas.

He also mentioned that over 10 political parties have expressed interest in participating in the elections, which will be held to fill 17 chairmanship positions and 260 ward councillor seats across the state.
