Lagos State Assembly Announces Plans To Team Up With Nigerian Army On Security

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has pledged full support to the Nigerian Army in efforts to maintain peace in the state. Obasa emphasized that the 40-member Lagos State legislature is dedicated to ensuring stability across all local government areas and welcomes any support that can contribute to this goal. He assured General Oyekola of the Assembly’s readiness to assist, stating, “Our arms are wide open. Whenever you need us, just call. We are here to protect the interests and rights of the people and to ensure the state’s continued progress.”

The Speaker praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his policies that have contributed to Lagos’s growth and reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to fostering economic, socio-political, and infrastructural development.

General Oyekola, who returned to Lagos after 20 years, highlighted the importance of maintaining the state’s peaceful status and requested the support of Lagosians for the Army. He stressed that the military serves as a crucial layer of protection, alongside the Nigeria Police Force, and expressed his dedication to the role.

Oyekola, who resumed at the Brigade’s Headquarters in Ikeja on August 21, 2024, previously served as Chief of Staff at the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai. He underscored the Army’s connection with the civilian population, noting, “Wearing this uniform does not make us different from the people. We are civilians first before becoming men in uniform.”
