Breaking: INEC Declares APC’s Monday Okpebholo Winner Of Edo Gubernatorial Election

Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been declared the winner of the September 21, 2024, Edo State gubernatorial election.

The off-cycle election saw 17 candidates vying for the prestigious seat at Dennis Osadebay House in Benin City, Edo State.

The election was conducted across 4,519 polling units in the state’s 18 local government areas. Reports indicate that Okpebholo had significant backing from former governor and current lawmaker representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole.

The contest was closely fought, with Okpebholo facing strong competition from Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP). Okpebholo secured victories in key local government areas, including Esan West, Owan West, Egor, Akoko-Edo, Esan Central, Orhionmwon, Etsako East, Etsako Central, Etsako West, and Oredo.
