The crisis reportedly erupted when a Hausa boy entered a woman’s home in the Yoruba community and was caught. After being apprehended, he was beaten by members of the community and later died after being taken to the Sarkin’s palace. A resident recounted, “The Hausa boy was caught stealing in a Yoruba woman’s house and was beaten, even by other Hausa individuals, on Sunday. He later requested water at Sarkin’s palace, and a Hausa woman provided it. Unfortunately, he died shortly afterward.”

By 7 PM, Hausa youths began mobilizing in groups and started attacking Yoruba properties, burning down houses and vehicles. One resident shared, “Alhamdulilah, I saw death, but thankfully, they only destroyed my glass windows. I’m currently displaced from my home; please continue to support me and my family with prayers.”

Another community member reported that the youths returned on Tuesday morning, targeting individuals from other tribes. “They came back, destroying our properties and attacking us. Many of these thieves are connected to Sarkin’s house. In the past, when they were caught, they were immediately released by Sarkin. A Hausa friend warned me late last night to leave my house because they planned to kill Yoruba people and other tribes today.”

He added, “Yesterday, one of the Hausa boys stabbed a member of our community who was escorting students home amid the chaos. They handed the assailant over to the police, but he has since been released.
