Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that the conclusion of the local government elections marks a fresh start for governance in Rivers State. He emphasized that the successful elections represent a victory for the people of the state.

His statement read: “With the conclusion of the local government elections in Rivers State, the political intimidation and judicial maneuvers have subsided, allowing governance to commence. From the busy streets of Port Harcourt to the quiet shores of Onne, the people have spoken in unison, affirming the strength of democracy.

“It has become clear that the citizens of Rivers are wise and determined, rejecting any form of political oppression or the influence of self-serving godfathers. “I also commend the resilient people of Rivers State for their courage in ensuring that the elections were conducted peacefully and with integrity. Additionally, I applaud Governor Fubara for his steadfast dedication to the interests of the people, protecting the sanctity of the elections even amidst provocative challenges.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara is scheduled to swear in the newly elected council chairmen today, Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt. The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m., according to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo.
