Tinubu called for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against those who violated sports regulations. He praised the effective collaboration between the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development in managing the situation.

The statement read: “President Bola Tinubu, deeply moved by the inhumane treatment endured by the Super Eagles at a Libyan airport, welcomes their safe return to Nigeria. The distressing experience led the Nigerian Football Federation to withdraw the team from their scheduled match on Tuesday.

“The President expects CAF’s Disciplinary Board to investigate the incident and recommend actions against those responsible for breaching the organization’s Statutes and Regulations.

“Tinubu commended the coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Sports Development in ensuring the players’ safe return and applauded the team for maintaining their spirit despite the ordeal.
