The report highlights a significant decrease in Oyo State’s unemployment rate, now at just 2.0 percent. This impressive figure positions Oyo ahead of 31 other states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which has an unemployment rate of 14.1% as of September 26, 2024.

Commenting on this achievement, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, noted that the NBS findings reflect the ongoing trend of robust employment levels in the state. “Recently, the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) announced the hiring of 7,000 new staff. Additionally, the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) reported the employment of 7,500 teachers and 3,000 non-teaching staff,” he stated.

He also mentioned that during Governor Seyi Makinde’s first term, 5,000 teachers were hired for TESCOM. In the health sector, the state government recently completed the recruitment of 375 personnel for the State Hospital Management Board, including medical doctors, nurses, and various specialists. Furthermore, an ongoing process is in place to hire 791 staff for the Oyo State Civil Service Commission.

Oyelade added, “The Seyi Makinde administration has also implemented the pardoning, reinstatement, and promotion of 1,800 workers. This approach underscores the Governor’s commitment to exceeding his previous achievements in welfare and employment, even within the first two years of his second term.
