Nigerian Music Dominates 67th Grammys: Burna Boy, Asake, Rema, And Tems Shine

In a notable inclusion, American artist Chris Brown, the only non-Nigerian nominee in this category, earned a spot with his collaboration with Nigerian artists Davido and Lojay.

The nominees for Best African Music Performance include:

• Tomorrow by Yemi Alade
• MMS by Asake featuring Wizkid
• Sensational by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay
• Higher by Burna Boy
• Love Me JeJe by Tems

It’s worth noting that last year, South African singer Tyla’s Water won the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammys.

Additionally, Nigerian stars Rema and Tems have been nominated for Best Global Music Album. Rema’s sophomore album HEIS and Tems’ debut Born In The Wild are up for the prestigious award, competing against Alkebulan II by Matt B and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Paisajes by Ciro Hurtado, and Historias De Un Flamenco by Antonio Rey.

Tems also received a nod in the Best R&B Song category for her hit Burning, where she will compete with Kehlani’s After Hours, Coco Jones’ Here We Go (Uh Oh), Muni Long’s Ruined Me, and SZA’s Saturn. This year, the Best R&B Song category features an all-female lineup.
