Tinubu Lands In Brazil Ahead Of G-20 SummitPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 19th Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20). Tinubu touched down at 11:03 p.m. local time on Sunday (3:03 a.m. Nigerian time) and was welcomed by Ambassador Breno Costa of Brazil’s Ministry of External Relations.

Accompanying the president is a delegation that includes several key ministers: Yusuf Tuggar (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Minister of Livestock Development), Hannatu Musawa (Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture and Creativity), Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security), and Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed (Director General of the National Intelligence Agency).

During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral talks focused on advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms. The G20 summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is centered on the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.” Key discussions will include sustainable development, global governance reforms, climate change, and the digital economy.

The Brazilian presidency has placed a focus on addressing geopolitical issues such as the Israel–Hamas conflict and tensions between the United States and China. The summit will formalize the outcomes of the Brazilian presidency’s efforts over the past year.

The G20 consists of 19 member nations, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union. The African Union and European Union have also been invited, highlighting Nigeria’s role in tackling global challenges such as food security and eradicating extreme poverty by 2030.

The summit, which runs from November 18 to 19, is expected to result in agreements and strategies aimed at addressing key global issues.
