The earlier statement had highlighted Danfulani’s qualifications, noting his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Master’s in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. It also outlined his extensive experience in banking, computing, and business administration, as well as his previous roles at the Central Bank of Nigeria and as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Zamfara State. The statement had expressed confidence that Danfulani’s experience would bring new commitment and positive outcomes to the SMDF/PAGMI.

However, shortly after the announcement, an update clarified that President Tinubu had approved the renewal of Fatima Umaru Shinkafi’s appointment as the Executive Secretary of SMDF/PAGMI. Shinkafi, who was originally appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, is recognized as one of the key figures behind reforms in the solid minerals sector.

The updated statement from Onanuga explained that there was no vacancy in the agency, and thus the earlier appointment of Yazid Danfulani was cancelled.
