The Abia State Government has denied allegations made by Enyimba Radio FM Aba, claiming that government officials, accompanied by security personnel, raided the station’s premises and harassed its staff and journalists.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the government dismissed these claims as a “false misrepresentation” intended to deceive the public and garner undeserved sympathy.

Ekeoma clarified that the government’s actions were focused on enforcing development control laws related to an ongoing construction project of a three-story building, allegedly intended to be a hotel, on the premises, and not targeting the radio station itself.

He explained that the Aba North Planning Authority (ABNPA) had issued several legal notices to the developers, requesting compliance with building regulations. Despite these notices, the developers reportedly failed to provide the required documentation and continued illegal construction.

Ekeoma noted that the site had been sealed by the ABNPA on three separate occasions, but the developers removed the government seals and resumed construction unlawfully.

He stated, “The key questions for the developers are straightforward. Why haven’t they produced the necessary documents to show compliance with development control requirements? Why are they building a commercial structure with four floors in a residential area within the Aba GRA? And why are they attempting to mislead the public about legitimate enforcement actions taking place on their property?”

Ekeoma further added that the local community had expressed support for the government’s actions, welcoming the enforcement as a necessary step to restore order in the GRA.

Addressing any claims of hostility toward the media station, Ekeoma emphasized that the government holds no issues with Enyimba Radio or its operations. He accused the developers of attempting to use the station as a shield for their unlawful activities and urged the management of Enyimba Radio to avoid being drawn into “petty politics.”
