2027 Presidential Race: PDP Reacts To Jonathan’s Wife’s Comments And His Political Future
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted claims that it is attempting to persuade former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for the 2027 presidential election under its banner.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an interview with BBC Hausa, PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, clarified that the party had not extended its presidential ticket to Jonathan.
Addressing earlier comments about the alleged invitation, Abdullahi emphasized that the PDP had already supported Jonathan sufficiently, and as a party member, there would be no need to seek his candidacy. He also questioned why the opposition party would try to court Jonathan, especially given that his wife, Patience Jonathan, had previously stated that her husband would not return to the presidential villa.
Abdullahi further explained that party leaders had not yet engaged Jonathan on this matter, noting that the PDP has 12 governors and several other prominent figures who are both eligible and qualified to contest the presidency.
He added, “The claim that PDP has offered its presidential ticket to former President Goodluck Jonathan or invited him to run in the 2027 election is false.
“What happened was that during an interview with a journalist, we discussed various issues. The journalist asked about President Jonathan, mentioning reports that he was being urged to run for president. I replied that Jonathan is eligible to contest the election, as he is a Nigerian and has the legal right to do so, with one more term available to him. There is no legal reason preventing him from running for president.
“However, not long ago, his wife stated that nothing would convince her husband to run for president again, that he had left nothing behind in the villa for anyone to believe he would seek another term. So, how can we consider him? A ticket is given to someone who has expressed interest in running.”
