In a statement released on Saturday by Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Odili made the remarks during an event on Friday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

It’s worth noting that Fubara and his predecessor, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have been embroiled in a supremacy battle since December 2023.

Odili, who served as governor from 1999 to 2007, lauded Fubara for his resilience and exemplary leadership amid the ongoing crisis in the state.

According to the statement, Odili highlighted that it has been over 12 months since October 25, 2023, when a significant yet avoidable conflict was launched against Governor Fubara over control of Rivers State.

“Odili noted that Governor Fubara, with unwavering resolve, tackled the challenge, thwarted an attempt by one individual to seize the state as a personal estate, empowered the people of Rivers, stabilized governance, and restored joy among civil servants and residents, reminiscent of the atmosphere during his administration,” the statement added.

In addition, Mary Odili, a former Supreme Court justice and Peter Odili’s wife, pledged her family’s continued support for the success of Fubara’s administration.
