Intelligence sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that Turji and his men have been targeting travelers and communities along the road, creating widespread fear and disrupting movement in the area.

The attacks come just hours after top Fulani leaders from Shinkafi, Moriki, and Zurmi met with Turji, urging him to reconsider his violent actions and lift his blockade of the Shinkafi-Gusau road.

During the meeting, the leaders appealed for peace, urging Turji to abandon plans for abductions and killings in both Zamfara and neighboring Sokoto State. They also called for the release of his control over vital routes to allow the free movement of people and goods.

However, Turji gave no assurances during the meeting, and it appears their efforts to persuade him were in vain.

It is worth noting that Turji had recently threatened reprisals following the arrest of his close associate, Bako Wurgi, by Nigerian Army troops. Wurgi, also known as Baka NaGarba, was a key figure in Turji’s network, facilitating ransom negotiations and collecting payments from kidnappings.
