Neither military authorities in Maiduguri and Abuja nor the Borno State government have issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, sources confirmed that casualty figures are rising as search and rescue operations continue.

A military insider revealed:

  • ā€œMore bodies are being recovered. Some soldiers died en route to the hospital in Maiduguri, and many remain unaccounted for, listed as Missing in Action (MIA).
  • “So far, over 12 bodies have been recovered, but it’s too early to determine the full scale of the casualties.”

The attack targeted the Forward Operations Base of the 25 Task Force Brigade, responsible for securing southern Damboa and curbing Boko Haram/ISWAP activities in the Yobe to Chibok and Gwoza axis. Insurgents reportedly dislodged the base, seizing and damaging military equipment.

Reinforcement efforts were hindered by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by the attackers, leading to casualties among vigilante forces.

The attack comes after a similar assault two weeks ago on a neighboring base in Wajiroko, where insurgents utilized modified commercial drones, highlighting their increasing sophistication and broader plans.
