Obasa Returns To Abuja Empty-Handed: Tinubu Meeting Crash Leaves Questions Unanswered
Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, arrived in Abuja on Sunday evening, triggering speculation about his next political move.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Sources who spoke with Westernpost revealed that Obasa flew into Abuja from the United Arab Emirates, where he reportedly failed to meet with President Bola Tinubu.
Witnesses at the Abuja airport noted that Obasa sat quietly in the arrival hall, without his usual entourage of aides and security operatives.
Obasa’s trip to Abuja follows a turbulent period. On January 8, the impeached speaker traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, along with loyal lawmakers and the former Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko—who was also ousted alongside him.
Reports suggest that Obasa left these allies stranded in various locations across the globe while he focused on securing his political survival.
Impeachment Fallout
Obasa was impeached on January 13 by 32 out of 40 lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly, marking a significant political shift in the state.
The House swiftly elected Mojisola Meranda, representing Apapa 1, as the new Speaker. Since her assumption of office, Meranda and her principal officers have consolidated power by engaging key stakeholders, including the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and former council chairmen.
It remains uncertain whether Obasa will succeed in meeting President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa after failing to secure an audience during his UAE visit.
Political analysts suggest that Obasa’s visit to Abuja may be a last-ditch effort to seek a soft landing or regain relevance within the All Progressives Congress (APC) power structure.
