The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has strongly criticized former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his controversial remarks targeting President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking at a national conference on strengthening democracy in Nigeria, organized by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development in Abuja, Amaechi claimed that Nigerian politicians often resort to theft and violence to secure electoral victories and cling to power. He further stated that those expecting President Tinubu to hand over power in 2027 are merely deluding themselves.

In response, Ohanaeze, through a statement signed by its Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, in Kaduna on Saturday, condemned Amaechi’s rhetoric, labeling it a direct threat to democracy, national peace, and political civility.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo described Amaechi’s call for the use of force to seize power from Tinubu in 2027 as alarming, divisive, and unacceptable. The organization firmly declared that the Igbo community would never support any political plot aimed at undermining the legitimacy of a democratically elected president.

Additionally, Ohanaeze expressed support for the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, who had earlier urged Amaechi to refrain from making inflammatory statements capable of inciting the public.

Reaffirming its loyalty to President Tinubu, Ohanaeze emphasized its commitment to promoting peace, stability, and effective governance in Nigeria.

The statement reads:

“Amaechi’s outrageous call for Nigerians to resort to ‘brutal force’ to snatch power from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 blatantly violates the principles of democracy, civility, and peace that we cherish.

His disturbing claim that politicians must be ready to ‘steal, maim, and kill’ to retain power not only degrades our political landscape but also poses a serious threat to societal stability.

We categorically condemn, in the strongest terms, the reckless and incendiary comments made by Chibuike Amaechi against President Tinubu.

It is imperative to state clearly that the Ndigbo will never support any political conspiracy designed to undermine the legitimacy of an elected president.”
