Dismissed Adamawa REC Swears On Quran, Defends Controversial Election Declaration

While addressing journalists in Bauchi, Ari insisted that Aisha Binani was the rightful winner of the election, contrary to the official declaration of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri as the victor. He accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the election tribunal of deliberately disregarding crucial evidence supporting his claims.

Ari alleged that both INEC and the tribunal dismissed his evidence without affording him a fair hearing. Despite his dismissal from office, he expressed no regrets, stating that he would make the same decisions if given another opportunity.

Allegations of Bias and Denial of Fair Hearing

Ari claimed he possessed substantial evidence to back his assertions but was never called upon to testify. Displaying documents he claimed were genuine result sheets, he voiced his frustration over how the case was handled.

“My dismissal is not the issue here. The civil service operates under established rules and procedures. But in law, there’s a principle called the golden rule of natural justice, which demands that everyone must be given a fair hearing. Even God does not punish without first sending messages through prophets and scriptures,” he stated.

He further criticized the tribunal’s refusal to consider his evidence, saying, “INEC ignored my letters, and the tribunal declared they wouldn’t accept my evidence. Even an ordinary judge should recognize the injustice in that.”

Swearing by the Quran and Accusations of Electoral Manipulation

Holding a copy of the Holy Quran, Ari swore by his faith, emphasizing that his actions were governed by principles of truth and justice. “Wallahi, everything I did was within the bounds of the Quran. We must always remember the last day,” he declared.

Ari’s claims continue to stir controversy amid ongoing debates about the integrity of the electoral process and the impartiality of Nigeria’s electoral institutions.
