Senator Natasha claimed that her issues with Akpabio began after she and her husband visited him at his Akwa Ibom residence on December 8, 2023, for his birthday.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator alleged that she attempted multiple times to move a motion regarding corruption in Ajaokuta Steel Company, but Akpabio continuously prevented it from being debated.

According to her, she initially listed the motion five times before it was eventually approved for discussion on the sixth attempt. However, she alleged that Akpabio found different excuses each time to delay or sideline the motion, ensuring it was never addressed.

She stated that following advice from her colleagues, she approached the Senate President privately to plead for his approval. It was during this meeting, she claimed, that Akpabio allegedly made an inappropriate request.

Quoting her conversation, she said: “I told him how important Ajaokuta Steel Company is to me, my people, and Nigeria. I asked why my motion kept getting stepped down. Then he said, ‘Natasha, I am the chief presiding officer of the Senate. You can enjoy a whole lot if you take care of me and make me happy.’ I pretended not to hear and left his office.”

She added that upon returning home, she informed her husband about her struggle to have the motion heard, though she withheld details of the alleged encounter with Akpabio.
