Strengthening Edo’s Security: Prince Okojie Commends Gov. Okpebholo’s Strategy, Moves Motion for Federal Intervention....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Hon. Prince Odi Okojie, the lawmaker representing Esan North-East and Esan South-East Federal Constituency, has commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his proactive steps in tackling security challenges across the state. While acknowledging the state government’s commitment, Prince Okojie emphasized the urgent need for federal intervention to reinforce ongoing efforts.

Raising a motion of urgent public importance at the House of Representatives in Abuja, Prince Okojie drew attention to the growing insecurity in his constituency, stressing the alarming rise in kidnappings, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.

The lawmaker lauded Governor Okpebholo’s introduction of the Joint Security Taskforce, known as Operation Rescue, which has been bolstered through the acquisition of security vehicles and enhanced coordination among local security outfits. However, he asserted that while these state-led interventions have made an impact, the situation demands stronger federal backing to ensure a lasting solution.

In response to Prince Okojie’s motion, the House of Representatives resolved to:

1. Observe a moment of silence in honor of those who have lost their lives due to security breaches.
2. Urge the Federal Government to deploy the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Police, and other security agencies to conduct intensified operations in affected areas.
3. Recommend the establishment of a permanent military base in Uromi to reinforce security measures and sustain peace in the region.
4. Mandate its Committees on Defence, Army, National Security and Intelligence, Police, and Legislative Compliance to oversee the execution of these resolutions and provide a progress report within four weeks.

Prince Okojie reiterated that while the Edo State Government’s actions have provided some relief, achieving sustainable security requires collective effort. He urged federal authorities to take swift and decisive action in addressing the security concerns of his constituency.

This call for federal intervention underscores Prince Okojie’s commitment to ensuring the safety of his constituents and highlights the necessity of a coordinated approach between state and federal agencies in addressing security threats.

As the resolutions move toward implementation, all eyes remain on the federal government’s response to this critical appeal for intervention.
