As the plenary session commenced, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read out the president’s letter seeking the House’s approval for the emergency declaration, which included the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other elected officials. The controversial move had already sparked widespread debate, setting the stage for a tense legislative session.

Shortly after the letter was read, Speaker Tajudeen instructed House Leader Professor Julius Ihonvbere to move a motion for its second reading, allowing lawmakers to deliberate on the issue.

However, the session quickly took a dramatic turn when lawmaker Obi Aguocha raised a point of order, citing the lack of quorum in the chamber. His intervention triggered a rowdy exchange, with lawmakers shouting over one another as tensions escalated. Despite Speaker Tajudeen’s attempts to restore order, the disruption persisted, creating an increasingly volatile atmosphere.

According to Naija News, this was the second consecutive day of heated confrontations over Tinubu’s request. On Wednesday, Aguocha had already challenged the legality of the emergency declaration, insisting that constitutional procedures must be strictly adhered to.
