Suspended but Not Silent! Ehie’s Enigmatic Post Raises Questions About Rivers Political Future

Ehie, who was among those suspended immediately on Wednesday by the Sole Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ibas, shared a cryptic message on his verified Facebook page, referencing Zechariah 4:7. In the post, he quoted the scripture: “Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel, you will become level ground. And he will bring out the top stone amid shouts of: ‘How wonderful! How wonderful!’”

His message sparked mixed reactions, with some expressing solidarity and others questioning his stance.

A key figure in the Rivers political crisis, Ehie initially served as the Leader of the House of Assembly and played a pivotal role in the unfolding conflict. As a close ally of Governor Fubara, he was suspended alongside three other lawmakers by the Speaker of the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly.

Notably, Ehie was the legislator who declared the seats of defecting lawmakers vacant after their alleged defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), triggering a rift that led to parallel legislative sessions.

The crisis momentarily subsided after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu brokered a seven-point peace agreement, during which Ehie resigned from the Assembly and was appointed Chief of Staff by Governor Fubara.

However, tensions reignited as pro-Fubara lawmakers reaffirmed their declaration of vacant seats and resumed parallel sittings, backed by court rulings, prolonging the state’s political instability.
