Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has fired back at former Ebonyi State governor Sam Egwu, dismissing claims that Wike’s political influence is fading. Olayinka’s response came after Egwu suggested that “Wike was living on borrowed time and that his influence would soon vanish.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Wednesday, Olayinka described Egwu’s remarks as fueled by deep envy and bitterness.

Reiterating Wike’s stance regarding the threat by some South-East PDP leaders to withdraw from the party, Olayinka criticized those who failed to deliver votes for the PDP in the 2023 elections yet still threaten to abandon the party, calling such behavior illogical.

He said, “Unlike Egwu, who resembles a spoon-fed politician, Wike’s political success is the result of hard work, dedication, commitment, and above all, God’s grace. A person who has mismanaged their political career often assumes others will do the same.

“The PDP constitution clearly names Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary, and anyone opposing this is only interested in the party’s downfall.

“It’s laughable that Dr. Sam Egwu—a former commissioner, two-term governor, former minister, and senator—who contributed little to PDP’s success in the 2023 elections, is now threatening the party to either engage in illegal appointments or lose his support.”

Regarding Egwu’s challenge to Wike to facilitate the reinstatement of the suspended Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Olayinka called the suggestion “preposterous.” He questioned how a former senator could engage in “beer parlour talk” implying that the FCT Minister wields the powers of the President and the National Assembly.

Olayinka concluded by saying, “Comments like these only reveal Dr. Egwu’s regret over Wike’s political rise. But can we stop him from regretting? Absolutely not.”
