His response comes amid recent calls by the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara governor, Bello Matawalle, urging him to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what Matawalle claimed would be in the “best interest of Zamfara State.”

In an interview with Punch on Sunday, Governor Lawal’s Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mustafa Kaura, dismissed the defection rumours as entirely baseless.

“Some people are spreading false claims that Governor Dauda Lawal plans to dump the PDP for the APC. There is no truth whatsoever in this,” Kaura stated. “PDP supporters should ignore these rumours. Governor Lawal remains fully committed to the PDP and has no intention of joining another political party.”

Kaura emphasized that the governor is prioritizing governance over politics, and is guided by faith and destiny.

“He is a man of faith who believes in divine destiny — what will be, will be — regardless of party affiliation,” he added.

Earlier, during a Sallah celebration at his Maradun residence, Matawalle publicly invited Governor Lawal to join the APC. Speaking through his former Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, Matawalle accused Lawal of engaging in a “hide-and-seek game” with the APC and challenged him to come out clearly.

“Dauda Lawal should stop the hide-and-seek and openly join the APC,” Matawalle said, adding that he harboured no personal animosity toward the governor and would welcome him warmly.

He also criticized Lawal’s leadership, urging him to utilize federal allocations more effectively for the benefit of Zamfara residents.

Matawalle lauded President Bola Tinubu as a visionary leader who prioritizes peace, security, and national development, noting that the APC under Tinubu’s administration is open to all well-meaning Nigerians.

On the issue of insecurity in Zamfara and the Northwest, the Minister said the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to combat terrorism and banditry. He noted that both the Ministry of Defence and military leadership are actively executing the President’s directive to restore peace and order in the region.
