In his resignation letter dated June 8, 2025, and submitted through Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Audu stated:I hereby formally resign from my position as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, effective immediately.”

In a follow-up statement, Audu stressed that his decision was based on principle rather than rebellion, noting:Though I’m not aligned with the PDP, I cannot be part of an agenda that turns Nigeria into a one-party state. Doing so would betray democratic ideals and divine grace.”

He warned that suppressing opposition voices for political dominance echoed the authoritarian tactics of 2003 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. This path is politically reckless and spiritually dangerous,” he said.

Audu, a vocal supporter of Tinubu during the 2023 campaign, expressed dismay over the shrinking space for dissent and ideological diversity:

Democracy thrives on competition, not domination. Even God allows belief and disbelief to coexist—why should we fear differing opinions?”

While voicing support for Tinubu’s economic policies, he strongly criticized the political partnership between Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, describing it as an “unholy alliance.”

We only differ politically. I stand as a progressive who defends democratic values—values I see eroding in the PBAT-Wike pact,” he added.
