The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its intention to hold its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on June 30, 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a letter dated May 30, signed by the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, the PDP stated that the NEC meeting will take place at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, located in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

The correspondence, referenced PDP/DOM/GF.2/VOL.1J/25-078, was acknowledged by INEC on the same day.
This action is in accordance with INEC regulations, which require political parties to provide at least 21 days’ notice before holding NEC meetings that involve decisions on party leadership or major policy issues.

The letter titled, “Notice of 100th National Executive Committee Meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party,” reads in part:

“We write to formally inform and invite INEC to our 100th NEC meeting scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
This communication is for the Commission’s information and necessary action. We thank you for your usual cooperation and kindly request an acknowledgment of receipt. Please accept the assurances of our highest regards.”

The announcement comes amid internal party tensions. Supporters of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, have warned that any NEC decisions made without recognizing Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary could be deemed invalid and further escalate the party’s crisis.

However, a party insider told Punch that Damagum’s letter aligns with resolutions from the 99th NEC meeting, where June 30 had already been agreed upon for the next gathering.

According to the source:

“The letter is appropriate. The 99th NEC had fixed June 30 for the 100th meeting. Since many issues from the last NEC remain unresolved, it was necessary to notify INEC and keep the process transparent.”

The insider added that the upcoming NEC will address several critical matters:

  • Finalizing the National Convention and Zoning Committees,

  • Receiving reports from standing committees,

  • Ratifying zonal congresses, and

  • Potentially resolving the lingering dispute over the National Secretary position.
