Energy Breakthrough: FG Lights Up North-West With New LPG Initiative In Sokoto

The North-West LPG Penetration Programme has been officially unveiled by the Federal Government in Sokoto.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy with the launch of the North-West LPG Penetration Programme in Sokoto State. As part of the initiative, gas cylinders were distributed to women and youths to promote energy access and economic empowerment.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State lauded the decision to flag off the initiative in Sokoto, describing it as a visionary move by President Bola Tinubu. He emphasized that the programme aligns with the state’s efforts to combat environmental degradation and boost economic resilience.

Highlighting Sokoto’s vulnerability to desertification, the governor noted that promoting LPG for household and industrial use will reduce dependence on firewood and biomass, aiding both environmental protection and livelihood sustainability.

Aliyu also detailed ongoing efforts within the state, such as an annual tree planting campaign in all 23 local governments. He urged stakeholders to prioritize affordability and accessibility of LPG, particularly for rural dwellers, as a means to promote healthier living and economic growth.

Additionally, the governor expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s support of oil exploration in Kalmalo, Illela LGA, and urged faster progress, citing its potential contribution to national revenue.

Other speakers at the event hailed the initiative as a major milestone in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy, with Sokoto pledging its full commitment to the programme’s success.
